David Shepherd

Owner, Management Board MEMBER

Mr. Shepherd is an owner and a member of the Management Board of Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk. He has the primary responsibility for the Institutional Advisory Practice.  He oversees the Wealth Management investment research and fiduciary consulting resources, and heads the proprietary systems development strategy alongside SKK’s in-house technology team. Mr. Shepherd co-chairs the Firm’s Wealth Management Investment Committee and works closely with the Wealth Management Research Committee. Mr. Shepherd has more than 25 years of experience in investment research, product development and consulting to the pension, endowment, foundation and family office marketplace. He advises the Investment Committees of numerous corporations on investment policy design, monitoring regimens and fiduciary compliance. Mr. Shepherd is on the boards of Etiometry Inc., Cristcot LLC, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He holds a degree in Economics and Finance from Boston University.

David Kaplan

Owner, MANAGEMENT BOARD MEMBER

Mr. Kaplan is an owner, member of the Management Board of Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk. He is actively involved in the development of the Firm’s intellectual property, consulting tools and technological capabilities. He also co-chairs the Firm’s Wealth Management Investment Committee and is responsible for developing the Firm’s Private Wealth practice and related operations. Mr. Kaplan has more than 25 years of experience in investment management, product development, marketing and education in the financial services industry. He provides consultation to private investors, trusts and foundations with deep expertise in the investment portfolio design and risk management areas. Mr. Kaplan serves on the Board of Overseers for the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, and the Endowment Committee for Temple Beth Elohim. Mr. Kaplan holds a degree in Literature and Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Timothy Krochuk, CFA®

OWNER, MANAGEMENT BOARD MEMBER

Mr. Krochuk is an owner and member of the Management Board of Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk. He is co-Head of Alternative Investments for the Firm’s Asset Management Division, with over 25 years of experience in investment research and management. He is also Chief Executive Officer and director of Trellis Software, Inc., which is developing software systems for financial service firms and investors. He was previously the youngest diversified portfolio manager in the history of Fidelity Investments. During his tenure, he used advanced quantitative techniques to study a variety of industries. He was responsible for the development, programming and implementation of investment models used in managing over $20 billion in public mutual funds—some of the first to use artificial intelligence in the investment process. He is an experienced programmer and systems administrator, having started his first technology company at the age of 13.  Mr. Krochuk holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and serves on the board of, or in an advisory capacity to, a number of private and public companies in the United States and Canada, including Windgap Medical Inc. and Etiometry Inc. He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO). Mr. Krochuk holds an AB in Economics from Harvard College.

Stephen Brackett

OWNER, PRESIDENT and MANAGEMENT BOARD MEMBER

Mr. Brackett is an owner and a member of the Management Board of Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk. He has 37 years of experience in the financial services industry primarily focused on private equity and venture capital investing, fund development, investment banking, and structured finance.  He is the President of the Firm, co-Head of Alternative Investments for the Firm’s Asset Management Division, and Chairman of the Firm’s Private Equity Committee. His responsibilities include managing and developing alternative investment initiatives. This involves product development, transaction origination, capital formation, portfolio construction, due diligence across investment and operational functions, strategic initiative development and management, and divisional governance. Prior to SKK, Steve helped launch and develop divisions of a number of private equity, venture and hedge fund platforms in partnership with global financial institutions, such as ING Bank and Manulife Financial Corporation. He ran the Investment Banking and Corporate Advisory Practice for Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Capital Corporation (BTMCC) and also held senior positions in the real estate, investment banking and trading sectors. He is a director or equivalent of NanoDx, Inc., Trilio Data Inc., Trellis Software, Inc., Altaeros, Inc., Global Partners Property Fund, EnviroKure, Inc., and Provident Healthcare Partners, LLC. He received a B.A. in Political Science from Bates College.

Brian Lockhart

OWNER, MANAGEMENT BOARD MEMBER

Mr. Lockhart is an owner and a member of the Management Board of Shepherd Kaplan Krochuk. He is the founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Peak Capital Management, LLC (PCM), which SKK acquired in February 2020. With over 25 years of portfolio management experience, he serves as the co-portfolio manager of PCM's suite of proprietary strategies, directing the company's dynamic allocation of distinguished ETF investment strategies implemented on behalf of high net worth and institutional clients. Brian has been featured in multiple media outlets including Barron's, Forbes, Fortune and Business Week. He is an active conference speaker, presenting on topics such as portfolio and risk management and alternative investments. Brian is on the boards of Newdea and NanoDx, Inc. Brian received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. Brian was also awarded a certificate for completion of the Investment Decisions and Behavioral Finance Program (11/2017), at John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Executive Education.
